Women Reading — The Magician’s Lie
Our selection for November is The Magician’s Lie, a spellbinding historical novel by Greer Macallister (alias Jael McHenry Maack) who tells the story of a woman magician known as the “Amazing Arden.” Set in 1905, the story begins: “Tonight, I will do the impossible. The impossible is nothing new to me. As I do every night, I will make people believe things that aren’t true. I will show them worlds that never existed, events that never happened.” The Washington Post wrote, “Macallister, like the Amazing Arden, mesmerizes her audience. No sleight of hand is necessary. An ambitious heroine and a captivating tale are all the magic she needs.” Join us Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7:30pm in Hoffman Hall for a lively discussion, even if you do not have time to read the book. We will try to keep spoilers to a minimum!
