What Concertgoers are Saying about Music at Westwood
“On Sunday, June 25, Music at Westwood at the acoustically-sound Westwood Presbyterian Church presented the glorious Beethoven’s “Mass in C Major, Op. 86,” directed by Maria Newman and featuring The Westwood Chamber Symphony and Master Choir, along with five accomplished soloists — mezzo soprano Nandani Maria Sinha, soprano Christina Borgioli, tenor Larry Duplechan, tenor Scott Noonan, and bass baritone Matthew Lewis. I would have to say that this mass ranks right up there with Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and Newman, along with the orchestra, choir and soloists, showed us why. It was a transcendent experience for the audience members and a sense of appreciation was felt that Newman chose this piece to present to the music community. There’s no doubt that Beethoven was smiling down from the heavens and so were we at the conclusion of the final concert of the season.”
