Rev. Dr. Michael Morgan begins his ministry at WPC on September 28, following Rev. Dr. Christine Chakoian’s retirement. Southern California native, Pastor Mike served for the past twelve years on the pastoral staff at Bel Air Church in Los Angeles. As a member of the church's senior leadership team, he helped shape the congregation's vision for discipleship and spiritual formation while serving across the full spectrum of church ministries, including preaching, congregational care, leadership development, and strategic leadership. He is also the creator of Equip, an eight-volume curriculum described as a discipleship journey designed to help people connect faith to their everyday life.
Mike earned his Doctor of Ministry from Portland Seminary, where his research explored cross-denominational discipleship. He also holds a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary and is a Certified Spiritual Director. Beyond pastoral ministry, Mike founded CaliSwim, a swim school that helps children and families build confidence and life-saving water safety skills. He believes that caring for people extends beyond the walls of the church and into the everyday places where children, families, and communities flourish.
Mike and his wife, Rebecca, have been married for more than seventeen years and have a nine-year old son and an English Cream Golden Retriever. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors, gathering around the table with friends, and exploring the beauty of God's good creation.
Members and officers alike serve together under the mandate of Christ, who is the chief minister of all. The standard for all offices is the pattern of the one who came “not to be served but to serve.” (Matthew 20:28) Each year, church members elect officers who are then ordained to fulfill particular functions. Ordained officers differ from other members in function only. The existence of these offices in no way diminishes the importance of the commitment of all members to the total ministry of the church. It is hoped that all members will find some arena of service within the life of our congregation. The ministry of Christ in and through our church is strongest when each of us does our part.
