Women Reading
Wed, Apr 3rd 7:30pm - 9pm
Hoffman Hall
Westwood Presbyterian Church 10822 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90024

All women are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 3 in Hoffman Hall at 7:30pm. Lise Deary will lead our discussion of The Library Book by Susan Orlean, a New Yorker staff writer and best selling author. One reviewer calls this book “An ode to libraries past and present. To the importance of books…and the way libraries have had to change and adapt in light of our electronic obsession.”  In this stunning work of creative non-fiction, the Los Angeles Public Library is the main character.  In addition to a vivid account of the catastrophic 1986 LAPL fire, the author interweaves stories of the library's history and of the daily life of its current staff and patrons. Orlean also recounts her own love for libraries: “these cathedrals of learning and art that contain the looping, unending story of who we are.” As usual, you do not need to have read the book to attend our meeting.
