Esperanza Earth Care Project

WPC’s Earth Care team, a pod within our Mission & Outreach Committee, supports the Trust for Public Land’s goal to have 28 green schoolyards in development by 2028, just in time for the 2028 Olympics (Program 28x28). Trust for Public Land and LA Neighborhood Land Trust are working together to reimagine Esperanza Elementary School’s outdoor spaces, a project that is a high priority for both organizations, and construction started at the end of July!

WPC’s contribution to the Esperanza project will go primarily toward the purchase of more mature trees. This means more shade, and less hot asphalt for the kids, families, and the community. When the 28 playgrounds are completed, 260,000 people will have quality green spaces (within a 10-minute walk in their neighborhood) and lower temperatures on the playgrounds by 20 degrees. Earth Care at work is God's Work!
